KANPUR: Leave apart the simmering rivalry between India and its hostile Himalyan neighbour China! Industrialists from city afresh after a learning visit to the dragon land say that India can incorporate some valuable lessons in the manufacturing sector from China.
Sharing the experiences, Sunil Vaishya, chairman, Indian Industries Association (IIA), emphasised that China owed its manufacturing prowess to its robust infrastructure supportive of industrial needs.
Industrialists from city were excited with the conclusion drawn from the comparative study done with the environment of industries located there. Vaishya said that they had a good transportation system in place and a considerable section of transportation took place via the water-route.
Vaishya added that since the cost of operation of transportation through water turned out comparatively very low in comparison to road and railways, India could develop similar routes wherever feasible, given the background of chain of big rivers in the country. Power, another indispensable input in industries should be made available round-the-clock on the lines of China, he said.
Claims from IIA say that as a result of the past two trips, the business enterprises have started making exports up to 20 per cent to China and have been importing 80 per cent of the raw materials from it.
Seeking comparing notes in taxation as well, Vaishya added that low taxes with wide coverage- that is a taxation system which is payable, at one-point and which brings maximum person possible under its ambit should be adopted in the country. Also a portion of tax should be shared with the industrial units through PPP model so that it could be used for industrial development of the city.
Clusters should be developed in which there should be separate faculty for testing lab, tooling etc and the labour law should be made transparent and practical, felt Vaishya.
Canton FairBusinessmen from Kanpur have been regular to dragon land for past two years in the import and export commodities' fair in China, popularly known as 'Canton Fair'.
The fair was organised in three categories; first being from April 15-19 this year (of large machinery, automobiles, electric appliances, hardware), second commencing between April 24-28 (of kitchen ware, home decorations, furniture, ceramics and items of personal use) and last one between May 3-7 (that would comprise of textile and garment industry).
Delegations from India have tried to explorea)-Quality of products made in Chinese markets
b)-Why Chinese items are better and more importantly, cheaper
Points to be emulated from Chinaa)- We can develop dedicated water transportation system in place, with availability of perennial rivers in country.
b)- Separate trade clusters for different products should be developed in which there should be separate faculty for testing lab, tooling etc
c)-Low taxes with wide coverage- a taxation system which is payable, at one-point and which brings maximum person possible under its ambit.
